A NEW monthly comedy night gets underway in Seaton this week featuring top stand-up talent from across the UK.

The Eyre Court Hotel in Seaton is playing host to the new club which will feature four top comics alongside regular local compere Tom Glover.

Tom is the regular host at the Bridport Arts Centre Comedy Café, Hamdon Haha and Weymouth Pavilion’s new Sunday Night Comedy. Devon resident Tom has been on the comedy circuit since 2010 gigging nationwide and will be using his contacts to bring some of the best undiscovered talent to Seaton.

Headlining the first night will be award winning stand-up Sally Anne-Hayward. Since winning the FHM Comedian of the Year award a decade ago Sally has become one of the most sought after comedy talents in the country appearing everywhere from London’s famous Comedy Store to Glastonbury Festival. Sally has also taken four solo shows to the Edinburgh festival, had her sketch show turned into a TV pilot and appeared on BBC radio and classic sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.

Praised by the BBC for her ‘warm and edgy charm’, Sally is sure to be hit with the Seaton crowd as she shares tales of her Westcountry life.

Joining Sally will be the gentle ranting madness of Mark Hurman. Mild mannered Mark has an eye for the wry observations in everyday life but is also known to share his anger at all the little things that make everyday a struggle for the middle classes, from the Government to recycling bins.

Completing the line-up will be two new acts just making their way on the comedy circuit, hand-picked by Tom as stars of the future.

The Eyre Court Hotel will be providing a Comedy and Chilli package for those who want to make a real night of it with tickets available from the hotel on 01297 21455.

The first comedy night will be this Saturday, May 3. Tickets will be £10 for just the comedy or £17.50 with chilli and rice included. Food will be served at 7pm with comedy starting at 8pm.

Somerset's Brady Kurtz ahead of team mate Josh Grazczonek and two Peterborough riders

There is saying that lightening never strikes the same place twice, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone at the ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels subscribing to that adage after seeing their hopes of winning the Premier League Pairs Championship evaporate after having a rider excluded in the Grand Final for the second successive season, to leave their duo of Brady Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek as runners-up to winners Ipswich on the night, writes Ian Belcher.
