Now into its fourth year, the three-day event features a wide range of quality jazz, from “trad” to more modern styles, along with a diverse repertoire presented by two female vocalists with wide appeal.
The event kicks off with a pre-festival warm-up show from highly-rated vocalist Louise Parker at 8pm at the Britannia Inn in Knowle on Thursday, April 17. Tickets are £10 (unreserved seating).
The festival proper is spread out over the Easter weekend, with all shows at the Budleigh Public Hall.
There’s top “trad” jazz from the Pedigree Jazz Band at 2.30pm on Friday, April 18. Tickets £10.
At 7.30pm, Georgina Jackson – accompanied by the Jim Watson Quartet – presents “Big Band Singers”. Tickets for this show – “aimed at people who don’t think they like jazz, but like lovely music” – are £15.
On Saturday, April 19, there’s a “clarinet summit”, featuring top reedsmen Ken Peplowski and Julian Marc Stringle, accompanied by the Craig Milverton Trio. Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.30pm, are £17.50.
There’s more “trad” on Monday, April 21, when the Pete Allen All-Stars – featuring Ben Cummings, Ian Bateman and the Craig Milverton Trio – perform at 2.30pm. Tickets are £10.
“Outstanding” female vocalist Elaine Delmar rounds off the proceedings with the festival’s closing concert on Monday, April 21. Accompanied by the Brian Dee Quartet, she’ll be performing standards from the “Great American Songbook”.
There will be a bar 30 minutes before each performance and during the interval, plus tea and coffee from the kitchen.
