Resilient residents

Yet another planning application from Strategic Land Partnerships has been lodged with East Devon District Council for land to the north west of Courtlands Cross, Lympstone - this despite an application being refused at appeal in January 2012.

The application was considered by Lympstone Parish Council on Monday, October 7, and again recommended for refusal in line with the newly-adopted Neighbourhood Plan and the emerging EDDC Local Plan.

This leads me to write to you and the community on two matters.

Firstly, how many more times must the residents of Lympstone and Exmouth have their lives disrupted in order to protect their heritage and invoke their civil rights?

A Parish Plan and a Neighbourhood Plan are not documents produced overnight, they take years of consultation and debate by the community and a similar amount of time for a dedicated group to put together. Coupled with two failed planning applications (and accompanying letters of objection) and a five-day appeal hearing, surely, this should be enough evidence that this development is unsound, unjust and unwanted - let us get back to the real tasks in life; earning a living, bringing up our families and enjoying a quality of life.

So the second matter: I am continually amazed at the determination and resilience of the Exmouth and Lympstone communities - your paper constantly has articles about money raised for charity and support for worthy causes - yet again the community has risen to the challenge and has currently sent over 362 “letters” of objection to the Strategic Land Partnership planning application. I thank you all - it is such demonstrations of support that keep one going. As “champion planning” for Lympstone Parish Council I am heartened by your support and will continue to represent the parish council but more importantly YOUR wishes on this application through East Devon and no doubt, in due course, another appeal.

Maybe with the Neighbourhood Plan in place, we can all return our attention to those “real tasks in life” I mention above.
